Hi Everyone,

My name is Chem…yes really, but I pronounce it Kim as my folks did when I was a kid. I think I was meant to teach Chemistry.

I’ve been teaching high school science since 2007, Chemistry since 2009, and AP Chemistry since 2013. I mention this to let you know I’ve taught a long time and learned quite a bit, but what is more important for everyone to know is…I AM STILL LEARNING…about the content, about my students, about teaching, and how to manage teaching and my personal life.

My goal in making this blog is to share what I have learned with others because many people have helped me along the way, but to also hear what others are doing so I can improve my own craft.

I also want this to be a safe space where we can ask questions and share without others making us feel dumb or like we aren’t doing a good job. I am a member of the AP Chemistry group and have participated in other online discussion groups where experts have made me feel stupid or ridiculous for the questions I’ve asked or when I want to add some fun to my class. This will be a warm and welcoming place where I will share what has and hasn’t worked and where no question will be a dumb question as this is an asynchronous environment and people might not have seen a prior post.

If you have questions about my teaching or want to share ideas that have worked for you, I would love to hear from you so please don’t be afraid to ask.

Thank you for taking the time to read this and HAPPY TEACHING!
